Valentijn Overeem is the older brother of Alistair Overeem.
Valentijn recently signed to fight in Strikeforce's heavyweight division where Alistair reigns as champion. He was set to make his debut against Antonio Silva, but the fight was called off. The fight was then later announced to be back on for the same event that it was pulled off of. Nooo... just over a week before the fight, Overeem was forced to pull out of the fight due to an elbow injury. There were talks of Ikuhisa Minowa replacing him against Antonio Silva on under a week's notice. Instead Mike Kyle stepped up.
Overeem next made his Strikeforce debut against kickboxer and undefeated mixed martial artist Ray Sefo in an alternate bout for the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament. Overeem defeated Sefo via first-round neck crank submission to hand him his first loss. He next faced up-and-comer and fellow alternate Chad Griggs, losing via first-round submission due to punches. Valentijn was next cut from Strikeforce, right on the heels of the promotion's heavyweight champion -- his brother Alistair.
Overeem next fought Evgeniy Erokhin losing via first round technical knockout.
