Ryo 'Piranha' Chonan

Ryo Chonan is a fighter that has fought in Pride, the UFC and in Dream. He holds notable victories over Carlos Newton, Anderson Silva, Roan Carneiro (twice), Joey Villasenor, and Hayato Sakurai. In his early career he had a strange amount of fights stopped due to cuts to his opponents. He fought in and was cut from the UFC's welterweight division after back-to-back losses to Brad Blackburn and T.J. Grant.

Chonan lost most recently to Jung Hwan Cha via knockout in April at Astra's inaugural event. He next fought Jun Hee Moon in DEEP, winning via third round TKO. He was reportedly next set to face Dan Hornbuckle at Sengoku's Soul of Fight year-end event, ut the report was soon enough revealed to be false.

Chonan instead faced Taisuke Okuno. Okuno defeated Chonan via quick yet nasty knockout.

After taking some time off, Chonan faced Shigetoshi Iwase in Deep. He knocked Iwase out cold near the very end of the first round after some early trouble. Chonan next competed once more in Deep against kickboxer Naoki Samukawa, defeating Samukawa via unanimous decision.

Chonan next signed to return to Dream to fight a rematch against veteran Hayato Sakurai for a title shot against welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis in 2012.
