The fight was the UFC debut of Rousimar Palhares and the last fight for Ivan Salaverry. He retired a month later.

The first round began and they touched gloves. Palhares blocked a high kick and got a body-lock to side control. Four twenty with Palhares mounting. Salaverry turned and gave up the back with four minutes. Palhares looked for the choke with both hooks. Palhares kept looking for it. Salaverry was defending. Three thirty. Kind of a stall here. A bit of a breather. Three minutes. Salaverry was warned for grabbing the gloves. Two thirty. Salaverry tried to turn out, Palhares grabbed a tight armbar however and it was over.
