The fight was considered by many to be a number-one contender fight for the WEC featherweight title, with the winner to face whoever won between Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber that same night. Manny Gamburyan scored a shocking knockout over the former champion Mike Brown perhaps earning a title shot.
The Fight[]
The first round began and they touched gloves. Brown missed an overhand right. They circled feeling each other out. Manny blocked a front kick. Four thirty-five. Gamburyan blocked another. Gamburyan blocked another. Four minutes with Brown landing a jab. Gamburyan blocked another front kick. Manny landed an inside leg kick. Three thirty-five. Gamburyan landed a left hook slightly. Gamburyan missed an uppercut. Three fifteen. Gamburyan landed a body shot. Gamburyan landed an overhand right. Three minutes. Gamburyan landed an inside leg kick. Gamburyan landed a right hand and dropped Brown and landed a few short shots downward and Brown went limp. Gamburyan walked away celebrating and Brown woke up and he was trying to get up, the referee laid over him holding him down telling him 'it's over'.
