Madsen was next set to face heavy-handed Todd Duffee, who held the official record for the fastest recorded knockout in UFC history at seven seconds. Duffee was injured and replaced by heavy-handed Gilbert Yvel. The crowd began booing a mere forty seconds into the first round of the Yvel fight. Madsen silenced them by taking the veteran Yvel down and pounding him out one minute and twenty-one seconds into the first round, shocking many. After the fight, Yvel was cut from the UFC.
Madsen next faced durable veteran and former training partner Mike Russow. Russow handed Madsen his first loss via doctor stoppage between the second and third rounds.
