The fight was in the finals of the Pride 2004 heavyweight grand prix, but ended in a no-contest due to a cut to Fedor Emelianenko resulting from an accidental headbutt. The fight and the finals it concluded were rescheduled.

The first round began. Emelianenko stuffed a double. He ended up on top in half-guard. He was defending a leglock. Emelianenko avoided and then avoided another and came down to guard. They landed that headbutt right there and passed to half-guard. Six fifteen. Nogueira landed a hammerfist from the bottom anda n upkick. Fedor was cut badly. Uh-oh.By the right eye. Nogueira's corner was excited. It was a huge gash. Fedor looked emotionless. Yep it was the headbutt FOR SURE. That's a downward-slashing cut. Mirko, Sergei and Aleks looked on worried and anticipating. Someone from the crowd yelled "super glue," Mark Coleman did. Nogueira yelled something at Fedor. Wait, are they going to let it continue? Fedor looked like he wanted to. The video cut out but yeah they stopped it eventually.
